Selena Quintanilla......................Selena was born April 16 1971 in Corpus Christi Texas . She was the youngest of three children to Marcela and Abraham Quintanilla. Selena joined her father's band at the age of eight. Selena was the lead guitarist in the group, as did her two older siblings Abraham junior on base and Sister Suzette who played the drums. Selena acted as the singer. The band was called Selena Y Los Dino and they would play with her siblings in various bars restaurants wedding fairs and many other places. Selena The Los Dino band was a very demanding band for Selena as well as her siblings. As a result, they did not get much of an opportunity to mature. Abraham senior, who was also in Los Dinos' original band, played the guitar. Selena Y Los Dinos officially began in 1981. It was Quintanilla's family's primary business venture and source of income. Quintanilla was determined, even though being a poor financial situation in early on. They continued to strive towards becoming a successful family band. Selena Y Los Dinos, an act that became popular throughout the West by the end of the 1980s was the result of their perseverance. Selena was awarded the Female Vocalist Award and the Performer's Year award at the Tejano awards in 1986. Selena Y Los Dinos grew in fame and popularity immediately afterward. They appeared on numerous Spanish TV shows of the Spanish language including El Show De Johnny Canales Siempre En Domingo and Sabado Gigante.
